This northeast Nebraska community received a grant from History Nebraska in May 2021 for the creation of an app-based walking tour of Neligh’s downtown historic district, historic attractions, museums, and other tourism related destinations. Some of the planned stops are the Trail of Tears marker, the Old Mill, the Antelope County Museum, the New Moon Theater, White Buffalo Girl’s gravesite, the Pierson Museum, the one-room schoolhouse, and the Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church.
"The City of Neligh is rich in history," said Lauren Sheridan-Simonsen, Director, Neligh Economic Development Office. "Preserving, protecting, and promoting Neligh’s rich history and sharing that history with community members as well as visitors will help others learn about our one-of-a-kind community."
The app is available for download on Google Play for Android devices. The app also uses Progressive Web App (PWA) technology to enable all major device types to access the app, with no app store download required.
Kelli Bacon, the Certified Local Government coordinator with the State Historic Preservation Office at History Nebraska said, "We have seen popular walking tours in other locations, and we hope Neligh’s proves to be just as successful."
The app can be viewed at discover.neligh.org or downloaded on Google Play. Additional information can be found at www.neligh.org and through the City of Neligh Facebook page and Grow Neligh Instagram page.
